Leveling the playing field

This morning I signed a contract to write leveled social studies curriculum for 10th grade students.

Did you know some high school students read at a 2nd grade level? This can be due to many factors. One reason is that many students are ELL’s or English language learners. In fact, as per the U.S. Dept. of Ed., over 5 million students in U.S. public schools are ELL’s.

Many of you probably know at least one English language learner. Can you imagine what it’s like to be a teen starting a completely new life in another country when you can’t even speak the language? How brave you must be? Especially today!

Looking forward to delving into this curriculum and leveling the coursework so that all kids can understand.
