Registration for the SCBWI Marvelous Midwest is coming up this Saturday Feb, 2^nd 2019. This event takes place May 3^rd to the 5^th. Here is a blurb from the SCBWI website: https://michigan.scbwi.org/events/wwmw2019/

This is a 3-day professional conference for authors and illustrators of children’s books hosted by six regions within the Society of Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators. Professional editors, agents, art directors, industry experts, and prominent authors and illustrators will present intensives and breakouts on the industry and artistry of children’s book publishing.

This is a special one-day “How to Get Published” writing workshop on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the historic Congress Plaza Hotel, just south of the downtown area. We’ll discuss your publishing opportunities today, how to write queries & pitches, how to market yourself and your books, what makes an agent/editor stop reading your manuscript, and more. No matter what you’re writing — fiction or nonfiction — the day’s classes will help point you in the right direction. Writers of all genres are welcome.

 

The best thing about the workshop is you can pitch your work to agents. I’ve done this a number of times. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door.
