A few upcoming writing events:

Registration for the SCBWI Marvelous Midwest is coming up this Saturday Feb, 2nd 2019. This event takes place May 3rd to the 5th. Here is a blurb from the SCBWI website: https://michigan.scbwi.org/events/wwmw2019/

This is a 3-day professional conference for authors and illustrators of children’s books hosted by six regions within the Society of Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators. Professional editors, agents, art directors, industry experts, and prominent authors and illustrators will present intensives and breakouts on the industry and artistry of children’s book publishing.

I will be volunteering at the event. I hope to see you there!

Another great event to mark on your calendar is the 2019 Writing Workshop of Chicago. This event takes place on June 29th, 2019. Here is a blurb from their website: https://chicagowritingworkshop.com/

WHAT IS IT?

This is a special one-day “How to Get Published” writing workshop on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the historic Congress Plaza Hotel, just south of the downtown area. In other words, it’s one day full of classes and advice designed to give you the best instruction concerning how to get your writing & books published. We’ll discuss your publishing opportunities today, how to write queries & pitches, how to market yourself and your books, what makes an agent/editor stop reading your manuscript, and more. No matter what you’re writing — fiction or nonfiction — the day’s classes will help point you in the right direction. Writers of all genres are welcome.

The best thing about the workshop is you can pitch your work to agents. I’ve done this a number of times. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door.

There is Picture Book Summit in the fall. Here’s the link:

WORLD CLASS FUN!

We are not your typical conference. Picture Book Summit welcomes all authors and illustrators who want to quickly learn industry updates each year, without the hassles and cost of traveling!

I love this event because you can attend without leaving your home as it is online. There are usually great authors and illustrators giving presentations about the craft of writing and illustrating picture books.

Happy writing!
